$10k in beef stolen from tractor-trailer in Northeast Philly

Where’s the beef?

That may have been the first question that came to mind for a tractor-trailer driver in Northeast Philly early Thursday after, police say, thousands of dollars worth of beef was stolen from a parked truck.

According to police, officers responded at about 4:12 a.m. on Thursday to the 5200 block of Devereaux Street in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philly after a tractor-trailer driver reported a cargo theft.

The driver told responding officers that he was awaken while sleeping in the cab of the tractor-trailer to find an unknown number of offenders had cut a padlock on the rear trailer and were loading products into their vehicles.

He shot cellphone video of the thieves as they fled the scene in a dark gray Nissan sedan and a pair of dark-colored SUVs, officials said.

Once the thieves left the area, the driver examined the truck to find they had made off with five pallets — or $10,000 worth — of beef.

Police have that cellphone video and an investigation into the theft is underway.

However, the robbery was not the first theft of frozen foods from a truck in Philly this week.

On Tuesday, a truck driver in Southwest Philly was awoke to his vehicle shaking as thieves worked to make off with 3,000 pounds of frozen crab.

Officials told NBC10 that investigators are working to determine if the two crimes are connected.
