14-year-old missing Monterey County teen rescued in Mexico, father arrested

(KRON) -- A 14-year-old teen who was missing for over a month was rescued by Mexican law enforcement, according to the Monterey County Police Department. The father, Sergio Galvez Perez, was arrested.

“Monterey County Sheriff’s Office detectives have worked closely with the FBI and
Mexican authorities to secure Diana’s safe rescue. During the rescue operation, Sergio Galvez Perez was arrested after he was found in possession of narcotics. Mexican authorities are aware of the pending charges against him in Monterey County for crimes committed against Diana. Diana is safe and is currently in the care of local authorities in Mexico,” said Monterey Sheriff Tina Nieto.

Monterey County girl missing for 37 days after giving birth on side of road

The Monterey County girl vanished after she gave birth to a newborn on the side of a Moss Landing road.

The baby's body was found by investigators on Aug. 1, and her teen mother went missing three days later. Diana was last seen traveling in a car without license plates in Salinas with her fugitive father. He is charged with sexually abusing his daughter.

Detectives suspect that Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, hid the girl to avoid being arrested for incest crimes.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office plans to host a press conference at a later date.
