Two Mankato-area businesses are helping support childhood cancer research and local hockey programs through the Anthony Ford Pond Hockey Foundation.
Baldwin’s Appliance Repair donated $10,000, while Kato Glass contributed $5,000 during a donation presentation Wednesday at the Anthony Ford Hockey Rink.
The foundation was started in memory of Anthony Ford, who died from leukemia in 2006. Since then, the organization has raised money for childhood cancer research at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, local hockey programs, and improvements at Spring Lake Park in North Mankato.
Robin Ford says the foundation has donated $145,000 to Children’s Cancer Research so far this year.
Baldwin’s Appliance Repair owner Chad Baldwin says the cause and the impact of the organization made the donation an easy decision.
Kato Glass has supported the foundation since its beginning. Owner Vern Scheuler says his continued involvement with the organization has kept him committed to the cause.
The foundation is now beginning to plan its next Pond Hockey Classic fundraiser, which is scheduled for January 30th and 31st, weather permitting.
