The Florida Lottery announced a winning Mega Millions ticket in the Jacksonville area for the second week in a row.
The ticket sold is worth an estimated $36 million, with a lump sum cash prize option of $17.4 million. According to the Florida lottery, only one winning ticket had been sold. This marks the second winning Mega Millions ticket sold in the area this month, with the first prize totaling $1.58 billion.
What’s interesting about this situation is that a winner had not been claimed for both prizes.
According to Florida Lottery rules, prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Because the prizes are worth more than $1 million, they must be claimed in persona at the Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.
